The front side of the icon depicts the Crucifixion of the Lord Jesus Christ with the saints standing before Him, who, according to legend, were at the Cross of the Lord during His execution. On the left is the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Maria Kleopova, on the right is the Apostle John the Theologian and Martyr. Longinus Sotnik. The opening verses of the protective prayer to the Holy Cross of the Lord are written on the back. This prayer is read in danger, and also carried with them to protect against evil forces: “May God rise again, and let His enemies be scattered, and let those who hate Him flee from His face. Like the smoke disappears, let them disappear; as wax melts in the presence of fire, so let the demons perish in the presence of those who love God.”
