In Russia there are only four schools - the center of art of lacquer miniature painting: Paleh, Fedoskino, Mster and Holui. Each school has its own technique and style. Fedoskino is distinguished by realistic image, multilayer painting technique and use of oil paints. The main stories of Fedoskino 's lacquer miniatures are realistic paintings, landscapes and portraits. Artists Holuya, the Avengers and Paleh adhere to traditional national themes. The main themes of their lacquer miniatures are fairy stories, scenes from village life, the famous "Troika." Unlike Fedoskin, the artists Holuya, Avengers and Paleh are close to the icon manner of writing with egg tempera.
