On one side of the icon is the Archangel Michael. The mighty Archangel is revered as the patron of warriors and all those who are faithful to God and who fight against the forces of evil, as well as the protector of the souls of the dead, the guardian of the gates of heaven. Above it is the monogram of Christ in the form of intersecting letters X and I, which are written in the same way in most languages of the Christian peoples. On the back, the flourishing cross of Christ is depicted at the top, and below is a prayer addressed to the Cross: “By the power of Your cross, save us, Lord.”
